didntmeanyou asked: Sorry, I’m not familiar with the Kony thing and The Invisible Children I’ve been googling but some people in my dash are saying invisible children are not as good as they seem? would you please give me a little context?
To be honest, I don’t know enough about Invisible Children to feel comfortable giving an opinion on them.
All I know is that the Lord’s Resistance Army hasn’t been active in Uganda since 2006. So at the very least there’s misinformation from the KONY campaign regarding what’s really going on.
My primary concern in all of this is that an African nation is once again being reduced to a single problem and the West is acting as if we have all the answers.
It’s cultural ignorance, believing that we’re going to jump in and save the day when Uganda is a capable and and beautiful nation. They have had their issues with rebel army groups, and they’re still dealing with the ramifications of that.
But a bunch of people who rarely give Uganda a second thought are suddenly behaving as if this is some huge effort that they’re really passionate about when many haven’t even taken the time to read up on the history of the LRA.
Not to mention, the LRA is most active in the Democratic Republic of Congo right now.
And I don’t even see anyone talking about DRC.
I know very little about Invisible Children.
All I know is that I am in love with Uganda and the people there changed my life. And we’re selling their country short by treating them as an incapable nation simply in need of rescuing.
